How can I make myself stand out?
While, on average, there are around 11 applicants for every apprenticeship job, if you can stand out and convince employers that you’ll be an asset to them, you’ll be in! It’s important to do all you can to set yourself apart from the competition.
- Do the necessary preparation and research and then fill in your application form carefully.
- Find out more about the business by doing some detective work. Find out more about what they do, how many people they employ, whether they’ve won any awards and so on. You’ll find most of this on the company website.
- Make sure you get across all your skills, experience, qualifications and qualities on your application form; it’s your first chance to impress and it’s important to really get your personality across as much as you can.
- Tailor your application to the specific job. The employer will know if you’ve used generic information! Instead try to think about your skills and experience and how they link to the job you’re applying for. Put that extra bit of effort in, it will speak volumes.
